Khorchin is a Mongolian dialect spoken in Tongliao, eastern Inner Mongolia, China. In contrast to Middle Mongolian, but especially to modern Central Mongolian dialects such as Khalkha, it is notable for its reduced inventory of aspectual morphemes and its inability to form complex aspectual forms from participle-copula combinations. In the first part of my presentation, I will give an overview over the tense-aspect system of Khorchin and related notions such as evidentiality, paying particular attention to the expression of imperfectivity. In the second part, I will sketch the changes that the tense-aspect-evidentiality system of Khorchin must have undergone and make a first attempt to localize them in time.
