My main research interest is the effect of parental linguistic input on child language and communication development. My aim is to identify and measure parameters in parental communicative behaviour and relate them to child communicative performance. Factors in parental communication expected to be important are e.g. child focus, pauses, imitation, and semantic and phonological interpretations. In relation to these factors I want to examine children's tendency to take communicative initiatives, their tendency to stay in conversation, their vocabulary size and word token use, as well as their use of words with increasing phonological complexity.

By using data from vocabulary reports (SECDI) and audio recordings of parent-child interactions, I have studied the relationship between child vocabulary size and factors that can be related: phonological complexity in child word production, parental adjustments of pause and utterance durations in interaction with their children, and parental use of content words.
