One question you might have asked yourself is what we're doing in Computational Linguistics at the department? This seminar attempts to answer just that question, but in a rather non-technical way, partly through a quick walk-through of our general direction and projects, but mostly through the resources and tools that we distribute.

So what is this digital language data that we have collected and analyzed, and what can we do with it? This will bring up a wide variety of topics from the field of computational linguistics, including but not limited to multimodal annotation, automated essay scoring, web data, part-of-speech tagging, distributional semantics, naming habits and text corpora.

No matter whether you're a computational linguist interested in the latest research in the field, a general linguist who needs language data and the tools to use it, a phonetician interested in language acquisition, a sign-language person interested in corpora, or simply someone interested in using our tools to investigate trends in language use, there should be something for you!
