The creation and use of Norwegian compounds with 'aske' (ash) in the media in the spring of 2010 was remarkable. The Norwegian Newspaper Corpus has provided suitable data for an empirical study concerning neology and burstiness on this topic. The results indicate that the number of new types as well as token frequencies rose markedly and the variety of compounds in use remained elevated for over a month. Some other findings will also be presented. The study hints at desiderata for supporting time-based studies in corpora in future language research infrastructures.
