Tid och plats: Torsdagen den 15 oktober, kl. 15-17 i C 307

In this seminar I will share some perspectives on contact language formation in Asian contexts. In particular, I look at contact languages that arise in the Monsoon region as the result of long-standing patterns of trade, slavery, multilingualism, intermarriage as well as endogamy. Through the study of varieties such as Baba Malay, Cocos Malay, Sri Lanka Malay, Makista and China Coast Pidgin we can reflect on the contexts in which language creation occurs and the dynamics that dtermine the input-output relation in language evolution.
