Abstract

In this seminar, we aim to provide a general overview regarding an ongoing analysis of acoustic-phonetic measures in comparisons involving genetically related individuals, namely, identical twins, and genetically unrelated speakers. The central research question may be formulated as follows “which acoustic-phonetic parameters and analysis dimensions, namely the spectral, temporal, and melodic dimensions, are the most inter-speaker discriminatory in comparisons performed between very similar individuals and across all speakers in the study?”. By exploring such a question, we intend to shed some light on the idiosyncratic nature of speech production from an acoustic viewpoint while identifying potentially relevant parameters for the forensic speaker comparison application. Moreover, new stages of the current research will be presented and discussed.
