Abstract
Sound reflections contain information about sound reflecting objects. Many blind people uses this information to locate sound sources and sound-reflecting objects (echolocation). There are examples of blind individuals who have acquired an astonishing ability to echolocate using self-generated sound, and for example are able to use these skills for bicycling or roller-skating. It is still unclear what acoustic properties that are used for echolocation, and whether anyone can learn to echolocate. My research addresses these questions. In this seminar, I will first give a review of research on human echolocation, and then present my ongoing research on echolocation training.
