Lab teaching facilities

The training laboratory is a versatile resource with capacity for up to 30 students. It can easily be arranged either in a classical classroom setting or in a laboratory setting offering the students the possibility of carrying out laboratory activities in small groups. An important component of the teaching activity is to train students in the use of advanced speech analysis software, in the planning and execution of phonetic experiments and in the critical interpretation of their experimental results.

All computers in the training lab are equipped with special phonetic software and recording facilities which can also be used to run basic perception experiments. Recordings requiring more controlled acoustic environment or high precision measurements can be made in the anechoic chamber or in any of the recording studios in the Phonetics lab. These high quality lab teaching facilities are suitable both for advanced teaching and research.

The training lab’s equipment includes a phonatory airflow and air pressure system, a laryngograph as well as various anatomical models and material for demonstration of acoustic phenomena.
